What is Jammu and Kashmir Issue That is Disrupting Indo-Pak Relationship?

Jammu & Kashmir is one of the most beautiful region in India. The scenic beauty of Kashmir attracts the people. Every citizen of India wants to visit this place once in their life. Someone has once said that if you ever want to go to heaven, just visit Kashmir, It is known as “The Paradise of the Earth”. The beauty of this place can easily enchant the mind of any individual. The snowy mountains, lush green grasses, forest etc. together creates a memorable moment in the life of a person. And that is the reason why thousands of tourists are attracted towards this destination every year.

Geography of Jammu & Kashmir:

The present Jammu &Kashmir territory comprises of the regions of Gilgit Baltistan, Jammu, Aksai chin, Kashmir, Ladakh, and some small regions like Shaksgam valley.  Gilgit Baltistan is on the control of Pakistan where the world’s tallest peaks(K2) is present. The Kashmir valley is present just below the Gilgit Baltistan. This valley is split into the two parts

  1. The green one on the left for Pakistan
  2. The pink one the right for India

There is only few region where Hindu community is dominated in Jammu and that one is Magenta. The red region on the right is Budhist of Ladakh.

Jammu & Kashmir was reign by Hari Singh

Jammu & Kashmir was ruled by the Hindu king,  Hari Singh. But there was the Muslim majority. After independence, Hari Singh wanted Kashmir to remain an independent country. He was reluctant to join either of the two nations. But the internal rebellion rendered him weak and he requested help from India.

Issue caused the disruptive relationship between the India and Pakistan

The newly created Pakistan wanted this region to come under it because Jammu & Kashmir was the Muslim majority state. So that Pakistan provoked the tribal people of Gilgit Baltistan to capture it. Maharaja’s was unable to stop the tribal invaders and he went to the Jawahar Lal Nehru for the assistance of Indian military. The Government of India helped to the Maharaja only after the signed on  ”Instrument of Accession ”. Once the Instrument of Accession was signed , the Indian military entered into the Kashmir with orders to evict the raiders. The resulting Indo-Pakistani War of 1947 lasted till the end of 1948. At that time Nehru ji approached to united nations so, he declared cease fire.

Then the army stopped at there and that point became LOC. The portion of Kashmir under Pakistan remained there and declared as Aazad Kashmir. This Jammu & Kashmir issue caused the disruptive relationship between India and Pakistan. The Jammu and Kashmir Issue is a territorial conflict between India and Pakistan, having started just after the partition (1947). China has at times played a minor role. India and Pakistan have fought three wars over Jammu and Kashmir Issue. It includes the Indo-Pakistani Wars of 1947 and 1965, as well as the Kargil War of 1999. They also fought for the Siachen glacier

Local Issue 

Sheikh Abdullah, a Kashmiri leader and other leaders started struggle against the Hari Singh under the Maharaja’s rule in Kashmir. During his regime there was no Muslims who indulged in the high post of administration . Albeit, high posts were mostly occupied by the Hindu Rajput. Some of them wanted liberation from the Hindu king. After India got independence, the sheikh Abdullah joined the hand of Nehru ji to support in uniting the state.

 Aftermath of Jammu and Kashmir Issue

This Kashmir issue has disappointed and cause the loss of many people in the state of Kashmir. As there is always clash between the militant and Indian forces, this makes the situation unstable.
