Agni 5 Missile is a surface-to-surface ballistic missile that can accurately target up to 5,000 km. This ballistic missile has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organization. It is the fifth one in the series of medium and long range missile of Agni. This Missile has successfully been test-fired on Wednesday. It was launched from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island, off the coast of Odisha.
India already has successfully tested other Agni series missile (these are Agni-I, II, III, IV). Agni- I, the first missile of the series, was developed under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP) and tested in 1989. But, it came in service in 2009. In 2013, India tested the Agni-II Missile. With course of time, India developed the other missiles and fired-tested.
India Tested Agni 5 Missile with 5,000 km Range
On Wednesday, India has successfully tested the Agni 5 Missile that can accurately hit target of 5,000 km. This Missile broadly falls in the category of an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile or ICBM. The nuclear warhead-enabled Agni-V is the fifth in the series of medium and long-range missiles made in the past fifteen years. The successful test of Agni-5 is in line with India’s stated policy to have “credible minimum deterrence” that underpins the commitment to “No First Use”. The successful test-fired of Agni-5 is in line with India’s stated policy to have “credible minimum deterrence” that underpins the commitment to “No First Use”. The missile is the bedrock of India’s nuclear deterrent along with submarine-based nuclear missiles, which had not yet been tested to anywhere close to this range. Earlier, China questioned the India’s Missiles project and brought UNSC Resolution (The UNSC Resolution 1172) ahead of Agni 5 Test. But, India does not care the warning of China and now has successfully tested Agni 5 Missile. China is furious over this.
